Requirements To Take The Prometric Florida CNA Test

  • No high school diploma/GED, if you are at least 18 years old.
  • If under 18 years old, you must have a high school diploma/GED.
  • Must be eligible to pass a level 2 background check.
  • Submit the application and pay the $155 test fee.

How to Apply for the Florida CNA Test

  1. You must visit www.prometric.com, to register for the Florida CNA Test. You can access both online and paper applications. However, you must create an online account with Prometric, prior to completing the application.

  2. Next, you must complete the Florida CNA Test Application Form. Please make sure your information on your ID matches the information you are submitting on your CNA Test application. You must pay the test fees when submitting your application. Currently, the price is $155 for first time test takers in Florida and is subject to change.

  3. After submitting your application, Prometric will notify you via email when the application has been received.

  4. Then, Prometric will verify if you are eligible to test by checking your background. If you do not have a level 2 background check, Prometric will notify you .

  5. Once you have been deemed eligible to test, Prometric will send you an admissions letter. This letter gives the date, time and location of your exam. You must present this letter to your test site to gain entry on test day.

Timed Test

The times for this test vary since some skills take longer to perform than other skills. You will be told how much time you have for your test during the instructions .

Resident Actor

In Florida, candidates are required to play the role of the resident for other candidates who are taking the Clinical Skills Test.

Corrections

You can make corrections while performing a skill. You must tell the Nurse that you are making a correction during the skill and you must actually perform the correction. 

List of Clinical Skills for the Florida CNA Test

For your test, you will be scored on five skills. While performing three assigned skills, you will also be scored on two additional skills, Handwashing and Indirect Care.  Indirect Care is care related to residents’ rights and preferences, communication with the resident, resident safety, comfort and needs, and infection control.

  1. Ambulate the resident using a transfer/gait belt
  2. Assist resident needing to use a bedpan
  3. Change bed linen while the resident remains in bed
  4. Change the resident’s position to a supported side-lying position
  5. Dress a resident who has a weak arm
  6. Empty contents of resident’s urinary drainage bag, and measure and record urine output on an Intake and Output (I&O) form
  7. Feed a resident who is sitting in a chair
  8. Measure and record a resident’s radial pulse
  9. Measure and record a resident’s respirations
  10. Provide catheter care to a female resident who has an indwelling urinary catheter
  11. Provide foot care to a resident who is sitting in a chair
  12. Provide mouth care to a resident who has a denture
  13. Provide mouth care to a resident who has teeth
  14. Provide perineal care to a female resident who is incontinent of urine
  15. Provide resident hand and nail care
  16. Provide resident a partial bed bath and back rub
  17. Provide the resident with passive range of motion (ROM) exercises to one elbow and wrist
  18. Provide the resident with passive range of motion (ROM) exercises to one shoulder
  19. Provide the resident with passive range of motion (ROM) exercises to one hip, knee and ankle
  20. Transfer the resident from the bed into a wheelchair using a pivot technique and a transfer/gait belt

Successful Candidates

After you pass both parts of your exam, your scores will be sent to the Board of Nursing. Your CNA Certificate will be mailed to you within 30 days. Your official results will also be listed on the CNA Registry.  It takes approximately one week from the day you test for your scores to be sent from Prometric to the Board of Nursing. 

Unsuccessful Candidates

If you fail a test, you will be given a score report at the test site on the day of testing. Results will be reported to the Florida Board of Nursing. If you want to retake a test you failed, you must wait at least 30 days before you can test again. You will also need to complete and submit another application form and appropriate fees.
